We celebrate Jerry Nettle every day!

At the end of every staff meeting, we do a double thumbs up and say, “for Jerry,” then we form a heart with our hands and say, “bless his heart and yours!” We do this because Jerry became, and remains, the heart of Project HIRED. He represents every client we work with, who fights each day to carve out a life amidst multiple challenges and disabilities.

Jerry started as a Project HIRED client, was placed with a local agency, and then returned to us as a temporary employee at our front desk. On top of his duties, he offered to look up job opportunities for our clients, which grew into a permanent position as our Job Developer.

Over the years, Jerry battled multiple disabilities including diabetes and eventually leukemia. When his condition required amputation of toes or chemotherapy, he returned to work as soon as the doctor would release him and he never complained. Jerry is an incredible role model for us all.

After Jerry passed in 2020, we were gifted the proceeds from his estate via his sister — a blessed donation that has helped so many others. His sister shared that the work Jerry did at Project HIRED kept him alive at least two more years; she swears this is true because Jerry told her so.
