Allow us to introduce you to Curtis Haroldson. When asked to tell us a little about himself, Curtis summed it all up by saying, “I’m motivated to help people, and want to participate in helping veterans.” Being a veteran himself, it was clear this was something that hit close to home for him. Before hearing about Project HIRED, Curtis was getting his Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy; his ultimate goal was to work for the Veterans Affairs hospital as a counselor. However, having been out of the workforce for some time, he was having difficulties finding employment. Interestingly enough, his own VA counselor was the one to recommend Project HIRED to him.
Despite not knowing anything about the program, Curtis filled out the necessary materials and eventually was contacted by one of our Employment Specialists over the phone for an interview.
Curtis continued to work closely with Mario, who would suggest different leads to follow in his search to bolster his résumé. Since Curtis had been out of the workforce for some time, Mario recommended that he do some volunteer work. This lead to Curtis volunteering at a suicide crisis line, and eventually he was offered a part time position at the organization, where Curtis continues to work.
Along with his work at the crisis line, Curtis is currently pursuing a position at Project HIRED’s call center in Sacramento. Curtis identifies working at the call center as being one of his new goals in addition to working with the VA.
“Throughout the entire process,” Curtis says, “[both] Mario and Veronica really stepped up towards helping me. ”
The staff here at Project HIRED want to thank Curtis for sharing his Project HIRED story. We will continue to support and wish him luck as he continues to work towards his goals to help his fellow veterans, continuing to be his motivated and caring self.
